Afternoon Tea Diaries: The Ivy on the Square

St Andrew Square, Edinburgh EH2 2AD, UK

For those of you who follow my Edinburgh adventures on Instagram, you'll know I'm a huge fan of afternoon tea so I was delighted to be invited to a rather fun event yesterday, the launch of Essential Edinburgh's Life & Style Weekender 2018, and the best bit, it was held at the Ivy on the Square over afternoon tea!

As well as telling you a little about the exciting Life & Style event that is returning to Edinburgh on the 5th & 6th of May, I thought it'd also be fun to share with you what afternoon at The Ivy was like.

Afternoon Tea at The Ivy on the Square

Having been to the Ivy once before (click here to read about their scrumptious lunch), it was such a treat to return. I always find the staff so friendly, plus their General Manager Eric Garnier is always incredibly welcoming. Despite the gale force winds outside, we were blessed with sunshine and sitting upstairs gave us a wonderful views down Rose Street and over onto St Andrews Square, it truly felt like spring has finally sprung in Edinburgh.

Now onto the fun part, what we had to eat! We started with a selection of savoury treats which consisted of a truffled chicken brioche roll, marinated cucumber and dill finger sandwich, and smoked salmon on gluten-free rye with cream cheese and chives. Being a vegetarian, the Ivy were more than happy to accommodate my dietary requirements and instead of the salmon I had avocado and they swapped out the chicken for tomatoes and feta. All of which were absolutely delicious. They also cater to vegans and offer gluen-free options. The first photo shows their regular, vegetarian, and vegan afternoon teas.

I must admit, my favourite part of afternoon teas are always the sweet treats and the Ivy really excelled. My personal favourite was the raspberry cheesecake tart, there was also chocolate and salted caramel mousse, and a creme brulee doughnut. Not forgetting, of course, the obligatory scone with clotted cream and raspberry preserve - I liked that it also came with fresh strawberries too!

If you'd like to treat yourself to one of their afternoon teas, the full Afternoon Tea is priced at £17.95 per person, or there’s the option to upgrade to the luxurious Champagne Afternoon Tea, for £25.95 per person. If you'd like something a little lighter you could try their cream tea, priced at £7.95.
